Alegent Health, an Omaha-based healthcare system with six major campuses and more than 50 clinics, faced mounting pressure to secure patient data and meet stricter HIPAA and JCAHO requirements while improving tracking of IT and clinical assets. Asset information was fragmented across legacy tools (Access, Excel, Word), making audits slow and inconsistent and hindering centralized control and reporting.

Alegent expanded ARCHIBUS (Building Operations, Furniture & Equipment, and Telecom & Cable) to an enterprise-level solution—adding Virtual Private ARCHIBUS security, a Process Navigator database, customized web-like screens, PDA-based data collection and barcode labeling—to centralize and standardize asset workflows. The result was automated reporting and self-service access (about 50% faster), stronger data security and asset control, easier audits and regulatory compliance, reduced system overhead, and plans for further integration with PeopleSoft and MAGIC.
