National Revenue Agency increases control proceedings to 624 with Arbutus Software

The National Revenue Agency (NRA) of Bulgaria, a government body responsible for collecting taxes, sought specialized data analysis technology to better combat tax fraud. Their challenge was to replace an older system with a solution offering expanded technical capabilities, regular updates, and improved functionality, while ensuring compatibility with existing automated analyses. They selected Arbutus Software through a public procurement tender to meet these needs.

Arbutus implemented its Analytics software for 300 users nationwide, including comprehensive training. The solution provided the NRA with rapid processing of large data volumes from various accounting systems, automated analysis, and flexible data handling. As a result, the NRA significantly increased its audit effectiveness; in 2017 alone, Arbutus was used in 624 control proceedings, leading to a higher detection of tax fraud and financial abuses. The implementation by Arbutus also improved information exchange between auditors across the country.
