Case Study: National Revenue Agency boosts tax-fraud detection and audit efficiency with Arbutus Software

The National Revenue Agency, Bulgaria’s tax collection authority, needed stronger data-analysis capabilities to detect tax fraud and financial abuses and to replace its legacy analytics software. After a 2016 public procurement, the agency selected Arbutus Software, deploying Arbutus Analyzer (desktop) and Arbutus Server to give 300 auditors the ability to import, harmonize and analyze electronic taxpayer data.

Arbutus Software delivered and installed Arbutus Server and desktop analyzers for 300 users, provided training, and completed the rollout in under five days. The solution automated routine analyses, sped processing of large datasets from multiple ERP and accounting systems, improved information sharing across regional offices, and significantly increased detection of tax fraud — Arbutus was used in 624 control proceedings in 2017, boosting audit efficiency and effectiveness across the agency.
