Providing a Service Platform Across the Enterprise with Aras PLM to Streamline New Product Development Process

Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) is a diversified global manufacturer serving aerospace, energy, transportation, shipping and consumer markets with 34,000 employees and roughly $13 billion in revenue. Facing dozens of disparate, “black box” product development systems across its business units, KHI struggled with slow cross‑department collaboration, high system costs and lengthy implementation cycles, and set out to find a flexible, upgradeable PLM platform that would shorten deployments and share process innovations company‑wide.

KHI selected and deployed Aras Innovator as an in‑house PaaS, working with partner ADS and using Aras’ model‑based customization and HQ templates to rapidly roll out solutions. Today Aras supports CAD, BOM, document and design data management for about 1,000 users across four companies, cut production environment creation from weeks to a day, reduced one company’s environment costs by 51–83%, improved cross‑discipline collaboration and standardization, and is being expanded to more locations with supplier and MES integrations planned.
