Attains Lean Six Sigma Agility with Enterprise PLM for MBOM

The U.S. Army’s Watervliet Arsenal (WVA), a century-old, ISO‑certified manufacturing complex that produces gun tubes and precision components, faced a business systems modernization challenge: standardize and integrate manufacturing process planning, tooling and maintenance, costing and quoting, and quality/auditability to support Lean Six Sigma initiatives across the facility and its co‑located Benet Labs. WVA needed a single, open, Microsoft‑based solution that could connect legacy systems and ERP while improving visibility, process control and cost estimation.

WVA implemented the Aras Innovator PLM platform as its manufacturing execution system for MBOMs, work instructions, CNC program vaulting, tool crib and preventive maintenance/calibration, integrated with MANMAN ERP and legacy costing. The deployment standardized operations, shortened lead and cycle times, improved quoting accuracy and manufacturing visibility, supported ISO/DCAA/DCMA requirements, and delivered greater agility and cost savings while enabling further Lean process automation.
