Case Study: Thomson Reuters achieves a fast, secure single view of everything with ArangoDB

A ArangoDB Case Study

Preview of the Thomson Reuters Case Study

Thomson Reuters Fast & Secure Single-View of Everything with ArangoDB

Thomson Reuters needed a sophisticated Business Analytics & Intelligence platform to provide a fast, secure single view of everything across 20+ semi-related data sources. They required a schemaless, high-performance data store with ad hoc joins and graph traversals and chose ArangoDB (multi-model DB with AQL and the Foxx microservice framework) for its open-source Apache 2 license, active community, and expressive query language.

ArangoDB was deployed (single-node: 24 vCPUs, 512 GB RAM; storing ~270 GB of data—408 GB dumped) with more than twenty Foxx services to centralize assurance, reporting, mobile and API portal needs. The AQL-powered queries run very fast (Product Owners and Business Analysts now write complex 200+ line queries), the Foxx framework greatly reduced development time and enabled mocked REST services for testing and improved security, and the system handles at least 3 writes/sec and up to ~2,000 updates/sec at peak. Thomson Reuters plans a three-node ArangoDB cluster for high availability, and reports faster, more secure access to consolidated data and more time spent on application development.
