Case Study: Linguathor achieves faster development and data-model fidelity for its language-learning apps with ArangoDB

A ArangoDB Case Study

Moonlighters’ Dream Linguathor Utilizing ArangoDB

Linguathor, built by two of three brothers, is a suite of language-learning apps that supports learners at any level and currently covers nine languages. Working nights and weekends, the team needed a database that let them focus on improving their learning framework instead of building infrastructure, and one that would ensure application data matched their conceptual model — so they chose ArangoDB (running as a standalone Docker instance) for its multi-model capabilities and readable AQL query language.

ArangoDB was implemented with a Foxx microservice providing OAuth2 access to an Apollo Server GraphQL API and the ArangoJS driver for database access. This setup made upgrades, Foxx deployments and dataset migrations straightforward, allowed the team to concentrate on features rather than ops, and ensured translations and tracked user actions aligned with their model. ArangoDB’s performance, multi-model design and AQL/joins measurably simplified development and gave the team confidence to consider a subscription.
