Case Study: Brass City (broadcaster engagement social network) achieves low-latency, scalable ACID graph operations with ArangoDB

A ArangoDB Case Study

Brass City Utilizing ArangoDB

Brass City, a broadcaster engagement social network founded by Jean-Sébastien Lemay, needed a database that could naturally model rich relationships (followers, friends, channels, event feeds), provide ACID transactions for critical operations like bets, and scale horizontally. After experiments with FoundationDB and OrientDB left Brass City with modeling difficulties and severe performance problems, the team chose ArangoDB for its graph capabilities, ACID transactions, and distributed scaling.

ArangoDB allowed Brass City to run complex business logic as atomic transactions written in JavaScript, cutting each operation to a single network round-trip and greatly reducing latency compared with prior systems. The result: markedly better performance in production, reliable transactional behavior for core features, and a successful launch—ArangoDB proved faster than the competition and required no bug fixes beyond minor error-message clarifications.
