AboutYou, a leading German eCommerce site with over 700,000 customers, faced the challenge of delivering professional, privacy-conscious personalization for both known and new users while integrating external apps and supporting document and graph workloads. After relational databases and BI tools proved too limited, AboutYou selected ArangoDB — a multi-model NoSQL database — and its Foxx JavaScript framework to meet needs for a scalable, secure API and mixed document/graph queries.

ArangoDB enabled AboutYou to store schema-free JSON data and run data-centric microservices via Foxx, reducing network latency and centralizing services.
