Case Study: Crunchyroll achieves fast, studio-quality animated production with Aquifer

A Aquifer Case Study

Preview of the Crunchyroll Case Study

Aquifer’s platform significantly lowered the cost and time of creating animated scenes for the awards show, which was viewed by over 1 million fans

Crunchyroll, the global anime brand, wanted to scale high-quality animated content creation in-house for projects like its 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Facing a very fast timeline, remote collaboration challenges, and the need to maintain a high creative bar, the team turned to Aquifer’s remote-enabled cinematic animation platform to help bring voice acting, motion capture, virtual scenes, and character animation together.

Using Aquifer, Crunchyroll was able to go from script to first cut in about a week and produce near-final-quality animated scenes in-house, avoiding technically complex production steps and reducing time and cost. Aquifer’s pipeline supported quick script changes, cloud-based rendering, and cinematic 24 FPS, 4K output, helping Crunchyroll create studio-quality content for the awards show viewed by over 1 million fans and extend animated content into social promotion before and after the event.
