USAID redevelops 25 hydrometric stations with Aquatic Informatics

The customer, USAID, faced the challenge of managing stressed water resources in Tanzania's Wami-Ruvu and Rufiji basins to support socio-economic development. Pressure from population growth, food security concerns, and major development projects was increasing, but collecting reliable water data from remote and difficult-to-access locations was a significant hurdle. To address this, USAID's initiative utilized software from vendor Aquatic Informatics, specifically the AQUARIUS Time-Series platform.

Aquatic Informatics provided the solution by deploying AQUARIUS software to manage time-series data and redevelop rating curves using a robust conceptual model that required far less field data. This approach substantially increased the accuracy of and confidence in the water data. The vendor's tools enabled the successful analysis of historic records, including the recovery of streamflow time series for stations with very few measurements. As a result, the data scarcity constraint was addressed, preventing further delays in the development of the basins' water resources for the benefit of the local population.
