A Aquatic Informatics Case Study
Coastal Carolina University, working with Aquatic Informatics, needed a better way to manage and explore large volumes of water quality time-series data. Dr. Susan Libes and the Waccamaw Watershed Academy were monitoring continuous sensors at different depths to study low oxygen conditions off Myrtle Beach, but Excel could not handle the 15-minute records across multiple parameters or support the level of graphing, correction, and comparison they needed.
Using Aquatic Informatics’ AQUARIUS software, the university was able to quickly manipulate massive datasets, apply automated data corrections, preserve audit trails, and generate publication-quality charts and graphs in real time. The result was much faster analysis, easier merging of data at different time scales, and the ability to do work that would have been impossible in Excel, helping Dr. Libes keep up during critical anoxic conditions and support reports, funding applications, presentations, and future research projects.
