City of Salem compiles 5+ years of watershed pilot data with Aquatic Informatics

The City of Salem, operating the Willow Lake Water Pollution Control Facility, embarked on a multi-year pilot project to test a Natural Reclamation System (NRS) for treating wastewater. Their challenge was to compile and analyze a significant amount of data from multiple sources to determine the feasibility of this constructed wetland approach and to report on it for regulatory permits. They turned to vendor Aquatic Informatics and their product, Hach WIMS, to manage this data.

Aquatic Informatics' Hach WIMS solution was implemented with minimal modifications to capture all necessary pilot data for over five years. The system successfully compiled extensive data on ammonia, phosphorous, BOD, metals, and other parameters, enabling complete analysis and reporting. While the solution effectively reduced temperature and ammonia concentrations, a full-scale wetland was ultimately deemed infeasible for Salem due to land requirements. Nonetheless, Aquatic Informatics provided the advanced technological means to thoroughly assess this sustainable treatment method.
