City of Riverside Streamlines Regulatory Compliance

Riverside Public Utilities (RPU), a public utility serving the City of Riverside, CA, faced challenges common to the water industry, including aging infrastructure, new regulations, and the need to modernize technology beyond manual spreadsheets for water quality data management. To address this, RPU partnered with vendor Aquatic Informatics to implement its WaterTrax solution as a secure, central database to consolidate and automate water quality data reporting from laboratories.

Aquatic Informatics provided a comprehensive solution, with RPU initially implementing WaterTrax in 2007 and later leveraging its API in 2018. This API integration seamlessly connected WaterTrax with the utility's internal OSISoft PI System, breaking down data silos. The results included centralized real-time data management, the elimination of manual processes to reduce errors, and significantly improved operational efficiency. This enabled timely decisions through real-time dashboards and alerts, giving staff a holistic view of their entire water system for better performance.
