How the American Rental Association Gets Email (and Email Verification) Right

The American Rental Association (ARA) is an international trade association for equipment rental businesses and suppliers—headquartered in Moline, Illinois, with more than 9,400 rental operations, 1,000 manufacturers and 35 active state associations. Because its membership is geographically dispersed, ARA struggled to reliably communicate with members: incorrect or outdated email addresses accumulated in their Aptify AMS, leading to high bounce rates and failed outreach.

ARA’s .NET developer built a VBScript integrated with Aptify that automatically sends any new or changed email address to Kickbox.io for verification. The system flags invalid addresses in real time (while still saving the record), letting staff correct errors before sending mailings. In one month ARA verified 600 addresses and found 110 undeliverable—nearly 20%—and since implementation has seen fewer bounces and more effective one‑on‑one and blast communications.
