Its four flagship products—Reference Universe, 19th‑Century Masterfile, Public Documents Masterfile, and Book News Online—needed to be integrated and regularly updated so researchers could easily discover and use this unique body of reference content.

Paratext engaged Aptara to consolidate disparate data formats into coherent, searchable files, providing large‑scale data entry, coding, and tagging that conformed to Paratext’s proprietary SGML DTD. As a result, the four databases are now integrated with full cross‑search capability, giving academic and scholarly communities streamlined, reliable access to the combined reference collection.
