VisionWorks Solutions, a backup and open-file management specialist deployed on over 200,000 computers worldwide, faced a critical challenge: guaranteeing valid backups of files opened with exclusive access (locked files) without risking corrupted restores or skipped data. Lacking in-house driver- and low-level file-system expertise, VisionWorks Solutions engaged Apriorit to develop a stand‑alone file access management solution to intercept and supply the last valid version of exclusively locked files to backup applications.

Apriorit delivered a rapid customer-oriented prototype (7 man-days development, 3 man-days testing), then built a COTS file access management product (full release in ~4 man‑months) and later a re-architected mini-filter driver version (another ~4 man‑months) with features like file operation tracking, large-file handling, change caching, network-file support and full logging. Apriorit’s work enabled VisionWorks Solutions to close the initial sale, produced a bestseller and leading product for their portfolio, significantly grew their customer base and market share, and spawned additional products and an ongoing partnership.
