A Apriorit Case Study
Leading Mobile Device Company needed to extend its video screen-mirroring feature to support external screens on other platforms, but the original streaming hardware platform was closed-source and used a secure, undocumented handshaking and key-exchange mechanism. They engaged Apriorit to perform device firmware reverse engineering and protocol research to discover how the platform’s mirroring worked and how to make different platforms interoperate.
Apriorit’s Research and Reverse Engineering Group reverse-engineered the firmware, reconstructed the RTSP/HTTP-based handshaking and key-generation process, and delivered a working prototype after 10 man-weeks that completed the full handshake with the original devices. The Apriorit findings enabled the Leading Mobile Device Company to implement cross-platform screen/video mirroring across a wide range of devices, and provided the information needed to add device screen recording to their roadmap.
