A Apriorit Case Study
Large Security Company needed deep Skype control for an enterprise security product—monitoring calls, messages and file transfers, censoring messages, and blocking actions—but public Skype APIs (skype4com) and GUI-hook approaches couldn’t provide action blocking or full monitoring. The client engaged Apriorit’s Research and Reverse Engineering group to reverse engineer Skype’s protected internals and identify stable internal APIs for low-level hooks.
Apriorit analyzed and restored Skype’s protected code, located hook points in core logic that remain stable across updates, and implemented a hook-based Skype security management component. Delivered in 1.5 man‑years, the solution provided message censoring, activity monitoring and action blocking and has survived two years of regular Skype updates (v5.1 to v6.7) with only minimal maintenance, giving Apriorit’s customer a measurable market differentiator.
