GSK Built an App in Just One Sprint to Patch Their Fleet of 3,500 Linux Servers

GSK, the global biopharma company, needed a secure and flexible way to manage complex internal infrastructure automation across its 3,500 Linux servers and many other IT processes. Director of Automation Matt was looking for an easier way for technicians and operations staff to manage data and trigger back-end scripts, especially for quarterly patching and other time-consuming workflows. GSK chose Appsmith, a low-code application platform, because it could be deployed on-premises and integrated with the company’s APIs, databases, and security requirements.

With Appsmith, GSK built its first production app in just one sprint to orchestrate Linux server patching, giving users a simple interface to launch jobs, monitor status, and handle exceptions. The tool dramatically reduced manual effort, with most patches completing without intervention, and Appsmith also enabled a separate data management app in just two days instead of the usual two to three months in C#. GSK has since expanded Appsmith across the organization to improve productivity, add guardrails, and streamline additional workflows.
