Penn State Leverages Application Security Platform to Fill Peoplesoft Security Gaps

Penn State University, one of the world’s largest public universities, needed to close security gaps in its PeopleSoft Campus Solutions environment. After implementing PeopleSoft for admissions, financial aid, and records, the university identified the lack of two-factor authentication and the risk of exposing sensitive PII, including social security numbers, without sufficient access controls. It turned to Appsian and its Application Security Platform to address these concerns.

Appsian implemented its Application Security Platform alongside DUO for two-factor authentication, enabling secure access across integrated PeopleSoft applications and all devices. The solution added layered security, enhanced logging, and protections such as location-based controls and data masking, helping Penn State monitor usage patterns and better protect sensitive data without hurting usability. The result was stronger visibility into system activity and a security posture the university described as essential in today’s environment.
