Seattle Youth Garden Works - Customer Case Study

Seattle Youth Garden Works (SYGW), a Seattle Tilth program that trains and employs homeless and underserved youth on urban farms, needed a better way to track participant outcomes. Their intake and exit surveys were done on paper, requiring staff to carry forms, manually transcribe handwritten responses, and risking lost or incomplete data—making program evaluation and reporting slow and error-prone.

Program specialist Christian Cain converted the surveys into an AppSheet mobile app (via the Google Forms add‑on), enabling offline data entry and one-click sync to a master spreadsheet. The app eliminated manual transcription, saved staff time, captured new data the team hadn’t collected before, and produced summaries that improve program evaluation and strengthen fundraising and grant applications.
