How One AppSheet User Helps Families Gain Access to Financial Services in Sub-Saharan Africa

AppSheet customer Patrick Mfossa used the platform to tackle a common problem in Foumban, Cameroon: limited access to formal financial services. Traditional ROSCAs (rotating savings and credit associations) provide a transparent, low-literacy way for families to save and borrow together, but growing geographic dispersion among members made in-person meetings and record-keeping impractical.

Patrick built FamilyOkBank on AppSheet — a private, family-specific mobile app shared via WhatsApp that combines mobile money, crowdfunding-style top-ups, and financial education. The app lets members contribute remotely (with flexible contribution windows), track transactions transparently, add emergency funds through crowd-lending, and scale quickly by copying a parent template, making collective saving and borrowing easier and more resilient.
