How a Great App Platform Helps Support Our Data-Driven Non-Profit

Brighter Bites is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that delivers fresh produce and nutrition education to families through school-based distributions across dozens of cities—serving about 15,000 families at roughly 70 school sites with a team of staff and hundreds of volunteers. The organization relied on Excel spreadsheets to track attendance, bag pickups, volunteers and program data, which led to error-prone re-entry, delayed and disorganized data, and painful, infrequent reporting that hindered timely answers for program leaders and donors.

Brighter Bites moved to AppSheet, building about 16 apps (rosters, daily site surveys, internal help and research tools, and an App Launcher) that work on phones and offline, sync automatically, and push notifications and workflows. The apps improved data accuracy and access, sped reporting, reinforced program fidelity, freed staff and volunteers to spend more time with families, and enabled new capabilities (real-time alerts, research tracking, and planned family messaging) that support scaling and donor reporting.
