H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series Gets The Custom Mobile App Treatment

H1 Unlimited, the premier U.S. hydroplane racing series, needed a way to reach its large, mobile-heavy fan base with richer, real-time information but lacked the budget to hire traditional app developers. With analytics showing nearly half of fans accessing content on mobile, webmaster Walt Ottenad sought a cost-effective solution to present schedules, results, media and more in a dedicated app.

Using AppSheet, Ottenad built the app in-house by importing the series’ extensive results database (thousands of rows and columns and over 3,000 video links) and adding driver/team profiles, photo and video archives, schedules, and social features. The app lets fans search and filter results in near real-time, will deliver live heat results and automated points tracking during the season, and was white-labeled and featured in the iOS store—delivering a powerful, affordable mobile experience with plans to expand the historical archives.
