Boom Technology, a Colorado aerospace startup building the XB-1 subscale prototype of its Mach 2.2 Overture airliner, faced a critical quality-management challenge: more than 3,700 parts and contributions from third-party suppliers meant non‑conformance reports (NCRs) could quickly balloon and must be closed before any flight. Traditional paper processes and costly, complex off‑the‑shelf systems wouldn’t work for Boom’s fast, nimble operation, so the team needed a customizable way to capture, assign and close defects in real time.

Manufacturing engineer Ryan Bocook built a custom no‑code AppSheet app that links to Google Sheets and was deployed in a week. The app provides dashboards for open/closed NCRs, owner assignments, attachments, permissions, and “tag you’re it” email notifications to drive approvals and closures. The result: a fully digitized NCR workflow that reduced paper handling, improved traceability and efficiency, required minimal training, and helped keep the prototype on schedule and safer to operate.
