A AppSense Case Study
St. Tammany Parish Hospital, a 237‑bed community hospital on Louisiana’s Northshore, was implementing a VDI strategy (Cisco UCS, EMC VNX, VMware vSphere/Horizon View) to meet Meaningful Use and migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7. The existing environment suffered long logon times, no persistent personalization, heavy help‑desk overhead supporting 2,300 users across seven sites, and the need for location‑based printing for clinicians moving between patient rooms.
Working with Siemens and deploying AppSense DesktopNow (alongside VMware Horizon View and Imprivata OneSign), the hospital delivered user environment management that preserved personalized settings on non‑persistent desktops and enabled policy‑based printing. Results included logon times of 35 seconds for new sessions and 5 seconds for existing sessions, a significant drop in help‑desk demand, seamless proximity printing, consolidation of desktop images (seven to two), reduced storage, the equivalent savings of one full‑time employee during migration, and improved clinician productivity and patient care.
