RIVM, the Dutch Governmental Institute for Public Health and the Environment, faced an outdated desktop landscape that didn’t support time- and location-independent work for its scientists. The organization needed to virtualize highly demanding, complex applications, tighten license control and lower costs without sacrificing flexibility or user experience.

RIVM implemented AppSense DesktopNow as part of a VDI campus, building a proof-of-concept and pilot that grew into a full rollout in six months. The solution delivered personalized, role-based desktops and self-service Campus tiers accessible from any device, brought roughly 450 applications into the virtual workplace, boosted employee satisfaction, enabled daily remote work for about 15% of staff, and reduced management overhead while preserving flexibility for complex scientific workloads.
