Enerplus, one of Canada’s oldest and largest independent oil and gas producers with more than 1,000 desktops across Canada and the US, was spending excessive manual effort on desktop updates, application installs and profile migrations. Despite using App‑V and Citrix XenApp, complex login scripts, roaming profile issues and the need to support dynamic business rules meant IT needed a way to decouple the OS, applications and user settings to improve manageability and reduce logon times.

Enerplus deployed AppSense Environment Manager to manage the user layer, stream per‑application personalization, take scheduled snapshots with rollback and enforce contextual policies. The result was dramatically faster logons (cut in half), elimination of roaming profiles, simpler profile and desktop refresh processes, increased flexibility to apply complex business rules, significant IT time savings and a lower total cost of ownership—making future moves to virtual desktops far easier.
