The City of Round Rock, Texas — a municipal organization supporting roughly 100,000 residents with more than 400 physical desktops and 350+ VMware View virtual desktops — needed to improve the VMware View experience, secure and centralize user data, and resolve persistent file sync and personalization issues (the so‑called “kitty cat wallpaper” problem) without disrupting employees or citizen services.

Round Rock deployed AppSense DesktopNow Plus (DesktopNow and DataNow) across virtual and physical machines to deliver roaming personalization, secure file access and multi‑device sync. The solution extended the value of VMware View, improved user experience and logon times, cut help desk sync tickets (from about 15 to 5 even before full rollout), reduced the desktop estate from ~800 to 400, and slashed system restore time by about 84% (from 4–6 hours to roughly 1 hour), enabling more efficient IT and better citizen service.
