A AppSense Case Study
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is a UK integrated care organization supporting more than 4,000 clinical staff across 20+ health centers, 40 community sites and a major hospital, running nearly 300 clinical applications where downtime or data loss is unacceptable. The Trust needed to implement virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 with minimal disruption, ensure application availability anywhere on any device, enable IT to support a distributed environment, and protect patient safety and information security.
The Trust deployed AppSense DesktopNow as the linchpin of its VDI roadmap, enabling a phased Windows 7 rollout and integration with Citrix XenDesktop and Microsoft App‑V. The solution virtualized difficult apps, fixed roaming printing, cut logon times to about 15 seconds, reduced GPOs by 90%, dramatically lowered patch failures and security exposure, and avoided the extra staffing and clinical-risk impact a “big bang” migration would have caused.
