AppSense helps Tyler ISD successfully deploy VDI in the face of $5M budget cut

Tyler Independent School District, a large K–12 district in east Texas serving 18,000 students across 31 sites, needed to replace desktops that were six to 14 years old and suffering long logons and poor reliability. The district chose VDI as the most cost‑effective path forward but faced a $5M budget cut that forced a scale‑back from 4,000 to 2,500 virtual desktops and extensive reuse of existing Dell hardware.

Tyler deployed AppSense Environment Manager to deliver personalized, consistent desktops, manage printers and application changes, and apply policies by lab or user group. The solution improved VDI management, enabled near‑complete student computer replacement (with admins on zero clients and teachers transitioning to thin clients), and let the district optimize its virtual desktop environment despite the funding reductions.
