AppSense helps McHenry County College scale IT smoothly to meet increased growth

McHenry County College (MCC), a growing community college serving nearly 60,000 annual participants, faced strained IT systems as student enrollment and technology use rose. Their Microsoft Active Directory roaming profile environment caused slow logins (commonly 2–5 minutes, sometimes over 10), frequent profile corruption and heavy support overhead—totaling hundreds of man-hours—so MCC needed a way to deliver a consistent, fast user experience across labs, staff desktops and mobile devices.

MCC partnered with RKON and deployed AppSense DesktopNow during a Windows 7 and hardware refresh to virtualize the user layer and centrally manage user settings. The migration cut average login times from about 2.5 minutes to ~15 seconds, eliminated many roaming profile issues (saving roughly 500 support hours per year), lowered hardware and software costs and enabled a customizable, consistent anywhere/anytime user experience while simplifying future desktop virtualization.
