Monitoring Over 300 Microservices with TraceView

HubSpot, an inbound marketing and sales platform founded out of MIT, grew to support over 15,000 customers and a complex, EC2-hosted architecture of more than 300 microservices. As teams scaled and third‑party APIs and asynchronous stores increased, sporadic outages and latency began to impact user logins and core workflows, and HubSpot needed a coordinated approach to application performance monitoring across dozens of autonomous engineering teams.

HubSpot formed a small Site Reliability Engineering team and adopted AppNeta’s TraceView to gain code-level, end‑to‑end visibility across their Java stack, HBase and memcache layers. TraceView lets the SRE team instrument, deploy and teach teams quickly, monitor hundreds of services in near real‑time, and pinpoint performance hotspots—reducing firefighting, enabling individual teams to own service metrics, and freeing the SRE group to focus on strategic optimization as the platform scales.
