Kingdom of Saudi Arabia advances pavement testing over 3 years with Applus+

Applus+ was contracted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support its QA/QC program for pavement materials. The challenge was to accelerate the innovation and improvement of asphalt layers by introducing advanced materials and practices, overcoming resistance to change, and ensuring high performance across various locations and climatic conditions.

Applus+ implemented and operated a Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS) system over three years. This included constructing a specialized warehouse, deploying a team of experts, and using the HVS to apply millions of loads in a few months. The solution allowed the Kingdom to rapidly test new materials and pavement designs at a real scale, reducing the time required to introduce more durable and sustainable roads to meet increased transportation demands.
