Passport, a mobile payments provider founded in 2010, helps cities, universities and private operators deliver parking, transit and permit payments through apps used in more than 2,000 locations by over 200 clients. As Passport expanded into new cities and use cases, it faced a growing QA matrix—many device, OS and carrier combinations—without the budget or practicality to build a large internal device lab, risking inconsistent performance and damage to its reputation.

To solve this, Passport partnered with Applause for in-the-wild functional and exploratory testing, tapping a global community of testers to replicate real-world conditions and local locations. The collaboration delivered nearly 200 iOS/Android configurations, rapid test cycles (results in days), broader device coverage at a fraction of in-house lab cost, faster time-to-market and the ability to roll out into new locations and business types without compromising quality.
