USDA - Customer Case Study

The USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA), which administers federal crop insurance through the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), needed to modernize its critical Escrow processes and adopt an Agile development mindset. CIO Chad Sheridan faced slow, inflexible development, poor requirements-gathering and a legacy system unable to provide the visibility, mobility and scalability required to handle large, time-sensitive indemnity payments.

RMA selected Appian Cloud’s low-code BPM platform to replace the legacy escrow system, enabling faster, sprint-based “RMAgile” delivery with built-in business rules, alerts, collaboration and full audit trails. The Appian deployment increased transparency and operational efficiency, delivered 110% of planned functionality for 90% of planned cost, was RMA’s first PaaS application, supports upgrades without extra training, and has spurred plans for dozens more enterprise solutions.
