A Appian Case Study
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) is an independent regulator charged with ensuring the safety of food, drugs, medical devices and chemical/biological substances across the Kingdom. To better protect public health, the SFDA needed real-time data visibility and integrated process intelligence to guide Port of Entry inspectors and support faster, more accurate decisions about imported medical devices, medications and narcotics.
Using the Appian platform, the SFDA deployed a Medical Devices National Registration System (and later a similar system for medications and narcotics) that tracks more than 15,000 establishments and 80,000 products. The system performs real-time pattern matching of components and ingredients, generates alerts for items linked to adverse effects, and guides inspectors through next steps—refusing imports, requesting more information, or escalating to experts—improving detection and response across the import process.
