Case Study: Queensland Government (DSDIP) achieves faster, streamlined development assessments with Appian Cloud

How Queensland adopted an innovative agency platform to yield efficient business strategies

The Queensland Government Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) oversees state development assessments but faced a fragmented, time-consuming process spread across eight agencies with more than 75 referral triggers. This complexity slowed approvals, increased costs for applicants and threatened the state’s broader economic development goals, creating a clear need for a streamlined, enterprise-wide solution.

DSDIP partnered with Appian to create the State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA) and its MyDAS online system on Appian Cloud, centralizing lodgement, automated workflows, collaboration and stakeholder access. Deployed in 16 weeks, SARA handled almost 6,640 applications and 845 pre-lodgement requests in its first year, reduced information requests, saved applicants time and money, and earned industry recognition including PIA and Gartner awards.
