How LIUNA Saved Two Months of Manual Work with Appian Portals

LIUNA (the Laborers’ International Union of North America), which hosts a convention of more than 1,400 delegates every five years, needed a fast way to reach delegates and validate shipping and registration information when the event went virtual during the pandemic. The existing in-person process required manual on-site validation; without a new solution this would have taken two full‑time employees about two months (≈640 hours). LIUNA also required a public-facing portal that wouldn’t force delegates to create accounts and that would integrate securely with its back-end systems.

LIUNA joined the Appian Portals beta and used the Appian Low‑Code Platform to build a public portal that connects external users to apps without authentication and ties directly into existing workflows. The portal was built in two weeks by one developer, eliminated roughly two months (≈640 hours) of manual data entry and validation, and avoided about nine months of traditional development time while streamlining delegate registration.
