Berliner Stadtreinigungsbetriebe (BSR) is Berlin’s municipal waste, street‑cleaning and recycling authority with about 6,000 employees. Facing pressure to modernize its IT, BSR wanted faster, more agile application delivery, a mobile-first user experience for field crews, and to reduce reliance on legacy SAP systems while becoming a more attractive employer for IT talent.

Appian and Bechtle delivered a cloud‑based, low‑code mobile app to capture and coordinate stormwater inlet cleaning, integrating across multiple SAP systems without costly data migration. The solution used Appian’s standard APIs, agile coaching, and internal developer training to speed releases, improve field workflows on iOS and Android, and advance BSR’s digital transformation—helping keep Berlin cleaner while lowering IT complexity and costs.
