Federal Transit Administration - Customer Case Study

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), a U.S. Department of Transportation agency that has supported local public transit since 1964, faced a critical data challenge: collecting annual reports from 4,000 transit agencies through outdated, siloed systems. FTA analysts spent countless hours manually reviewing spreadsheets and reconciling inconsistencies to produce the accurate data Congress needs to allocate grants.

Using the Appian Platform, FTA built the National Transit Database (NTD) to consolidate reporting into a single repository, reduce agency reporting burden, and automate validation and task workflows. That success led to TrAMS on the FedRAMP-certified Appian Cloud, a modern grant-management system that streamlines award processes, improves traceability and security, and leverages NTD data—such as safety incidents and project pipelines—so analysts can make faster, better-informed funding decisions.
