DC Central Kitchen is a nonprofit social enterprise that uses food to fight hunger and poverty through culinary job training, living-wage job creation, and social ventures like farm-to-school meals and affordable produce delivery. The organization relied on manual, paper-based processes and needed a modern, scalable case-management system to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
Since 2019 Appian has provided its low-code automation platform and development support pro bono, helping DC Central Kitchen automate programs like Healthy Corners and Community Meals and deploy a Workforce Safety app during COVID. The Appian apps manage the full order-to-delivery lifecycle, generate delivery tickets and production sheets automatically, notify communities of deliveries, capture performance data, and reduce errors — freeing staff to focus on mission-critical work and improving the efficiency and reach of their services.
