A Appian Case Study
The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), founded in 1917, represents 41,000 public school teachers in BC. Its Income Security Division (ISD) provides income insurance to more than 40,000 members but relied on a largely manual, paper‑intensive claims and case management system that was no longer maintainable; ISD needed a BPM solution to streamline and automate workflows and give users real‑time status tracking.
ISD implemented Appian's BPM platform to automate and unify all aspects of member claims—short‑term, long‑term, rehabilitation and withdrawals—and to integrate with existing systems (Accounting SQL Server, OpenText Document Management, and UnionWare). The solution delivered real‑time case visibility, reduced data‑entry errors, produced actionable metrics, and standardized communication with members.
