Using the Power of Google Maps for Campus and Facility Management

AppGeo worked with Rutgers University, New Jersey’s largest higher education institution, to solve the challenge of making campus and facility information easy to access across three main campuses, hundreds of off-campus facilities, 900 buildings, and a large transit network. Rutgers needed a unified way to present data that had been siloed in separate systems, including buildings, parking, bus routes, walking paths, amenities, and property details.

AppGeo implemented a campus mapping solution using the Google Maps Platform that integrates with Rutgers’ ArcGIS Online, Archibus facilities database, and Transloc API, creating a single source for location information across campuses. The result is a responsive, accessible campus map with searchable locations, clickable buildings, secure staff-only views, and wayfinding features that support students, staff, visitors, and facility managers; it also strengthened the university’s brand and improved the user experience, while supporting key accessibility standards such as keyboard navigation and screen-reader compliance.
