AppGeo’s Giza Imagery Streaming Tool helps the Texas Natural Resources Information System to Reduce Costs and Enhance Data Democracy

Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS), a division of the Texas Water Development Board, needed a better way to share imagery and geospatial data with state and local agencies. AppGeo helped TNRIS move away from costly, time-consuming hard drive distribution and toward a scalable streaming approach that could also track who was using the data and how much was being used.

AppGeo implemented Giza, an imagery streaming tool that uses OGC WMS and WMTS to provide immediate access, restricted custom links, and usage tracking for a cost-sharing model. With Giza, TNRIS now streams over 30 terabytes of imagery to more than twelve state agencies and numerous local agencies, improving access, reliability, and availability while reducing costs and eliminating the need for on-site hosting.
