Major International Software Provider needed to update its Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) during its yearly refresh but lacked in-market resources across 66 markets. The company engaged Appen to provide in-market resources and experienced project management to collect and maintain locale-specific data (dates/times, capitalization rules, currencies, script direction, etc.) in markets where internal teams or technology access were limited.

Appen sourced three contributors per market (≈198 participants), tested documentation and tools in two pilot markets, then ramped work across the remaining locales while managing data entry, voting, forum monitoring, and final candidate release support. Appen’s autonomous project leadership delivered the CLDR update on schedule, secured resources in constrained markets, organized close to 200 participants, and saved the client time and money by reducing field deployment and overhead; the client now uses Appen bi‑annually and for other global projects.
