Airbus partnered with Appen to improve the accuracy of its AirSense flight forecasting solution, which uses historical flight path data to estimate flight times and arrivals. The challenge was to annotate thousands of flight paths from GPS data, with each cluster needing to be labeled in the correct order across different route variations such as short-haul, long-haul, and diverted flights.

Appen provided its Data Annotation Platform and onsite annotation services to help Airbus train annotators, map flight paths, and align image positions with GPS coordinates. With Appen’s quality assurance tools and close collaboration, Airbus securely and accurately annotated thousands of images and launched the pilot project successfully with 98% accuracy.
