Wowcher Chooses Appdynamics To Monitor Cloud Migration

Wowcher, part of DMGT plc, is a leading UK daily-deals site that migrated its web application through multiple platforms — from a LAMP stack to DMGT’s Java platform and then to Amazon EC2. Technical lead Tony Murphy needed to keep the site performant during these moves, but before the cloud migration the team found it difficult and time-consuming to locate and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, relying heavily on log-file analysis.

Wowcher implemented AppDynamics APM to gain visibility into its Java environment and real user experience; the intuitive UI made it easy to pinpoint problem transactions and slow browsers/devices. Running AppDynamics before the move provided performance baselines for comparison after migration, helped optimize the end-user experience, reduced mean time to innocence to about 10 minutes, and became a core part of day-to-day operations.
