Pizza Pizza Reduces Troubleshooting Time from Days to Minutes with AppDynamics

Pizza Pizza, Ontario’s largest pizza chain with over 600 restaurants and a 400-person call center, relied on phone, web and mobile ordering handled by several high-transaction applications. Frequent biweekly code releases and a lack of visibility into the application layer made it difficult to find performance bottlenecks; troubleshooting across about 50 Tomcat instances often consumed 20–30 man-hours, increased call-center talk times by roughly 10 seconds, and even led to costly outages.

In January 2012 Pizza Pizza deployed AppDynamics, gaining actionable visibility in under a week and quickly optimizing problematic SQL and transaction flows. Mean time to resolution fell from 20–30 hours to 15–30 minutes, average talk time dropped to about 2:15–2:20, and developers now catch issues before they reach production—preventing the kind of outages that had previously cost $100,000–$150,000.
